As a young man faces death, a mother’s fierce devotion reveals the lengths she will go to protect the child she loves.
As a young man lies dying, unresolved anger, addiction, and resentment rise to the surface, forcing both mother and son to confront the complexities of love, sacrifice, and forgiveness. The film explores the emotional cost of devotion and the quiet strength required to hold a family together in moments of crisis.
MOTHER marked Gregory’s first short film as a writer and producer after years of working in theatre and publishing. The story was inspired by his mother’s relationship with his half brother and was conceived as a deeply personal reflection on unconditional love, caregiving, and resilience within a fractured family.
Gregory approached the project as an intimate, character driven narrative rooted in emotional truth rather than spectacle. The collaborative nature of filmmaking became central to the film’s impact, with cast and crew connecting closely to the material. Many brought their own lived experiences with family dynamics, caregiving, and addiction into the process, shaping both the performances and the creative environment.
MOTHER reflects Gregory’s belief that small, personal stories can carry significant emotional weight and marked the beginning of his continued exploration of film as a storytelling medium grounded in empathy, restraint, and human connection.
