They had to erase themselves in order to survive.
Following a government sanctioned purge targeting the LGBTQ community, four best friends survive by living in fabricated marriages to one another. Once a week, they secretly reunite with their true partners and gather to remember the lives they were forced to abandon. After three years of clandestine meetings, they must confront whether maintaining these moments of truth is worth risking their lives. Over the course of a single night, buried emotions surface, friendships fracture, and everything changes.
Hiding in Daylight is a speculative narrative written and produced by Gregory that examines the fragility of civil rights and the personal cost of enforced erasure. The story imagines a near future shaped by fear driven legislation and social compliance, exploring how quickly freedoms can disappear when discrimination is normalized.
Rather than focusing on spectacle, the film centers on intimacy and relationship, using friendship and chosen family as a lens through which to explore survival under oppression. The narrative draws deliberate parallels to historical moments when marginalized communities were forced underground, reminding audiences that progress is neither permanent nor guaranteed.
The film was directed by Cheryl Allison, whose approach emphasized restraint and emotional realism. Together, the creative team sought to tell a story that functions both as a warning and a call for vigilance, underscoring the idea that history can repeat itself when complacency replaces empathy.
